Joyce Lynn Vaughan, 74, of Zanesville passed away on Tuesday March 19, 2024, at Genesis Hospice Morrison House surrounded by her family. Joyce was born on November 15, 1949, in Nicut, West Virginia to the late Bernard and Orpha Yeager Hall. Joyce attended the Ohio State Highway Patrol Training Academy. After her graduation she joined the Zanesville Police Department on September 2, 1980, where she had a highly decorated career of over 20 years. Within the department and the residents of Zanesville, she was a wealth of knowledge and enjoyed teaching others. She was a D.A.R.E. officer, a Juvenile Detective, and certified Criminal Investigator. She retired on December 12, 2002. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Philo Baptist Church. She was a loving mom, grandma, sister, and a friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by three children: Michelle (Edwin) Rayner, Shane (Jennifer) Vaughan and Shawn (Keela) Vaughan; a stepson: Mark Vaughan; two brothers: Gary (Sheila) Hall and Randy (Karen) Yeager; a sister Donna (Randy) Whited; five grandchildren: Brandon Rayner, Aaron Vaughan, Haley Branch, Emily (Dylen) Marple and Faith Groff nine great-grandchildren and her dog Chloe.
Visitation will be from 1-3 pm on Saturday March 30, at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE. A Memorial service will follow at 3pm with Rev. Jeff Belt officiating. Burial will follow in her family cemetery in West Virginia.
