Houlka-Joyce Nadine Martin Washington, 62, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at North MS Medical Center in Pontotoc. She was born on June 3, 1963 in Ohio to Jesse "Jake" Martin and Virginia Duncan Martin. She was a member of Schooner Valley Baptist Church. Joyce graduated from Houston High School, Class of 1981. She was currently employed at Delta Furniture Manufacturing in Pontotoc. She married the love of her life, Sammy Washington, on July 1, 1995 and they enjoyed almost 30 years together raising their family. She liked being outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. Joyce's favorite thing to do was going to her "happy place", a cabin on the Skuna River in Grenada. She spent much time there fishing. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother that will be greatly missed.
Southern Funeral Home in Houston has the honor of serving the Washington family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 1:00 at Southern Funeral Home with Brother Jacob Samuell officiating. Burial will follow in Georges Chapel Cemetery in Thorn. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Derek Earp, Shane Martin, Devin Martin, Anthony Martin, Gregg Martin, and Matt Ruth.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel "Sammy" Washington of Houlka; her sons, Lane Washington of Houlka and Brandon Washington of Maryland; her daughter, Amanda (Joey) Ward of Houston, her brother, Jesse Martin of Houston; and her grandchildren, Bryanna Ward, Chloe Washington, Haley Washington and Grey Ward.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Virginia Martin; her brothers, Edward "Shag" Martin and Calvin Martin.
