Joyce C. (Crane) Wester Age 98 of Hammondsport, NY and Elmira Heights, NY was born August 4, 1927 in Rochester, NY to the late Raymond and Nina Crane. She passed away at home after a brief illness, surrounded by family, on March 4, 2026. In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her husband of nearly 60 years, Harold Wester, in 2006; her 7 siblings Carrie Irwin, Marion Crane, Lizzy Swarts, Rachel Moore, Raymond Crane, Murray Crane, John Crane; and sister-in-law Joan Luckenbach. Survivors left to cherish her memory are her daughters Vickie (Edward) Westbrook, and Kelly (Raymond) White; grandchildren Rachel (Rich) Hufford, Lindsey (Chris) Hufford, Paige (Deanna) Freeman, Eric White, Tyler (Megan) White, Connor White; great grandchildren Ryan Hufford, Madison Hufford, Reagan Hufford, and Caleb White; sisters in law Jean (James) Turner, and Jane (Alan) Kane; her companion cat Fancee; along many extended family and dear friends. Joyce demonstrated her love through thoughtful acts of service. Known for her cooking, pie, and sugar cookie baking, she and Harold owned and operated Bell's Pantry from 1957-1984 before retiring to Waneta Lake. Joyce was a 50+ year member Oakwood United Methodist Church, and a long-time president of United Methodist Women's group at Oakwood. She was a former member Elmira Heights Historical Society, where she shared her cooking talents, and was named Elmira Heights Business and Professional Women (BPW) Woman of the Year 1987. Her family wishes to recognize all the wonderful care from Heart Two Heart - with special thanks to Kelly, Trina, Nadiya, Staci, Heather, and Shannon, and Care First - especially Tonya, RN and the rest of the staff. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads, NY on Friday, March 6, 2026 from 12 noon to 1 pm, with her funeral service at 1 pm. Committal prayers and interment to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, NY. Those wishing may honor Joyce with a donation in her memory to CareFirst by the link on the lefthand side of the page.
