Joyce C. White, age 82, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026. She was born December 15, 1943 in Mauston, WI to Reuben & Elsie Peterson.
Joyce was a loving wife and mother, who lived to serve others. She was drawn to those who were suffering and in need. For decades she expressed these gifts as an accomplished nurse serving in the emergency room, the surgical suite and as a hospice nurse and manager. As a longtime pastor’s wife, Joyce could pull together a Sunday lunch for twelve on the spur of the moment so that visitors always had a place at her table. No matter how busy she was at work and church, she delighted in putting John, Jennifer and Jason first, tirelessly making their home a place of safety and warmth for everyone. A gifted seamstress, Joyce made countless outfits including Jennifer’s wedding gown. In her later years, in addition to cross stitching, she began making jewelry. As an avid puzzler she was never without her sudoku, cross words or a jigsaw puzzle.
More than anything Joyce loved Jesus. She welcomed those who were struggling and had a unique capacity to listen to people’s stories and gently point them to the truths of the gospel. Never one to welcome the spotlight, she was always looking out for others who didn’t feel like they belonged and moved toward them. She knew that only Jesus could provide the hope that they needed. While Joyce’s health began to fail this last year, her faith never did. When she went home to be in his arms, she was more in love with him than ever before. She will be deeply missed by the hundreds and hundreds of people that she served so well over the years.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Rev. John K. White; her children Jennifer (Patric) Knaak & Jason (Jan) White; her grandsons Parker Knaak & Brody White; her siblings Ruby (Leslie) Banks & Judie (Arlin) Culver.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Rosemarie Peterson.
A visitation will be held Wheaton Bible Church, 27W500 North Ave, West Chicago, IL 60185, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
