Obituary published on Legacy.com by Garrison Funeral Home on Mar. 30, 2026.
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Joyce L. Wingate, of
Plano, TX on March 27, 2026, at the age of 84.
Joyce was born on July 4, 1941, in
Garrison, Texas to parents Grady Gibson McGuire and Georgia Lavinie (Wells) McGuire. Joyce was a long-time resident of Nacogdoches and Garrison, until moving to the Dallas/Fort Worth area several years ago to be closer to her daughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Levi Hester Jr., twin sister Wanda Jean Thomas, sister Jaunita McGuire, as well as brothers James McGuire, Raymond McGuire, and Billy McGuire.
Left to cherish Joyce's memory are her daughters Robin Hester of
Plano, Texas and Georgia Smiley and husband Phil of Lewisville Texas, son Blake Jehle and wife Bobbie of New Waverly Texas, Joyce's brother Grady McGuire and wife Kermit of Nacogdoches, Texas, sister-in-law Ann McGuire of Tyler, Texas, sister-in-law Lois McGuire of Nacogdoches, Texas, brother-in-law Joseph Thomas and wife Sandra of Hitchcock, Texas, and brother-in-law Miles Wingate and wife Joy of Nacogdoches, Texas.
Joyce was a proud Memaw to her grandchildren Candace Wingate, Michael Hester, Larry Hummel and wife Becca, Nikki Johnson and husband Joseph, Matthew Morgan and wife Michelle, Amy Hester and husband Jake, Brooke Anstaett and husband Jackson, Blair Jehle, and Becca Jehle, as well as twelve great grandchildren. Aunt Joyce was also blessed with many nieces and nephews as well. While Joyce may have been on the quieter side of the McGuire family, there was no doubt that all the kids knew how much she loved them!
In addition to being Mom, Memaw, and Aunt Joyce to many, Joyce worked in many occupations. The highlights were working as a Licensed Vocational Nurse as well as being an integral part of the home building and cabinet businesses co-owned with her husband.
Joyce loved to fish and hunt. She took great pride that she was the trophy winner for the largest Marlin caught on a fishing excursion in Cabo San Lucas, as well as she had the largest Elk trophy on the wall at the house. She was the best shot in the family! The men in the family may not miss being reminded of this!
Joyce also loved travelling in the RV. She really loved visiting the Dakotas, Utah, New Mexico, and all parts of the western United States.
Mostly Joyce was close to her siblings and their spouses and loved spending time with them for many special occasions. Many family members still reminisce about these special, and sometimes crazy, times together! And there was a lot of crazy!
Graveside services will be at Noon on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Cold Springs Cemetery, 21712 North FM 95,
Garrison, Texas 75946. Pallbearers will be her son Blake along with grandsons Larry, Matthew, and Michael.
While Joyce may have left this earth, she will never leave our hearts.
