Juan Almaguer Obituary

Juan Manuel Almaguer’s journey on this earth has come to a close, but the story of his life will forever be written in the hearts of those who loved him. He was a man who carried joy wherever he went, whose laughter could brighten even the darkest day, and whose devotion to family was the foundation of his life.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Josie Almaguer; his parents, Juan M. Almaguer and Maria Peña Almaguer; and his siblings, Luis Merino, Julietta Almaguer, Maricela Almaguer, and Leticia Almaguer. Though their absence left a deep ache, Juan Manuel honored them by living with love, humor, and resilience, keeping their memory alive in the traditions he carried forward.

His legacy continues through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom was a source of pride and joy. He delighted in their accomplishments, cherished their laughter, and found purpose in their presence. His family was his greatest treasure, and he gave them the gift of unconditional love, a gift that will never fade.

Juan Manuel is survived by his adoring siblings, Mario Merino (Diana Merino), Miguel Merino, Oralia Rodriguez, Estella Cuevas (David Cuevas), and Gloria Almaguer. His family flourished through his cherished daughters, Monica Valverde (Antonio Valverde III), Erica Garcia (Raymond M. Garcia), Corina Ortiz, and sons, Juan Manuel Almaguer, II, Julian Alejandro Almaguer (Lani Almaguer). His legacy continues through his grandchildren, including Matthew Almaguer, Amanda Alexiah Almaguer (Ernesto Cantu), Victoria Valverde (Omar Abulawi), Jessica M. Almaguer (Mark Shulla), Juan Manuel Almaguer, III, Joshua Almaguer, Johanna Almaguer, Sarah Escobar, Dyllan Ortiz, Prudence Ortiz, and Paige Ortiz. Julian Alejandro Almaguer, II and Zoe Almaguer. He also treasured his great-grandchildren, Periwinkle Almaguer, Liam Cantu, Noah Abulawi, Luke Shulla, Olivia Josefina Shulla, Emery Escobar, Everlyn Escobar, and Baby Kalilah. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous godchildren, nieces, and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Juan Manuel’s life was filled with simple pleasures that became extraordinary because of the joy he brought to them. He loved spending time with his brother, Mario, and enjoyed visits from his sister, Estella. Sundays were for football with his sons, afternoons for scratching lotto tickets, and evenings for enjoying good food. He found happiness in working in the yard with Matthew, visiting Monica’s salon to joke with customers, and strolling through HEB and Walmart, a tradition he began with our Mother, Josie, and lovingly continued. His dogs were his loyal companions, always by his side, and his pantry was always stocked with sweets.

Beyond his humor and warmth, Juan Manuel was a master carpenter. As a cabinet maker and carpenter, he built homes across Corpus Christi and beyond with his brothers. His work was more than skill—it was love made tangible, creating spaces where families could grow, laugh, and love. His craftsmanship was a legacy of dedication, artistry, and care.

Juan Manuel will be remembered as a man who never let a day pass without laughter. He was a big joker, always ready with a smile or a playful remark, and he taught those around him that joy is not found in grand gestures but in the everyday moments we share. His life reminds us that true wealth lies not in possessions, but in the love we give and the laughter we inspire.

As Proverbs 17:22 reminds us, “A cheerful heart is good medicine.” Juan Manuel’s cheerful heart was indeed medicine for all who knew him. His memory will forever bring smiles, his laughter will echo in our hearts, and his love will continue to guide his family for generations to come.

Rest in Heaven our beloved father! Jan. 5, 1945 – Nov. 4, 2025
