Juan Rivera

Juan Rivera, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, at the age of 101 in Orlando, Florida. Born on May 6, 1923, in Juncos, Puerto Rico. Juan lived a long and fulfilling life marked by generosity, music, and an unwavering love for his family and community.
Growing up in Puerto Rico, Juan developed a passion for music and learned to play the guitar at a young age. His love for music remained a lifelong part of his identity, and it was something he passed down to his family. While in Puerto Rico, Juan met and married the love of his life Josefina Rivera.
In his adult years, Juan moved to Niles, Michigan, where they raised three children, instilling in them the values of hard work, education, and kindness. Juan was immensely proud of each of his children, Juan Ramon Rivera, Carmen Delia Szumski, and Carmen Luz Escribano, especially when all three graduated from college. His encouragement and belief in the importance of education shaped their futures.
A man of deep generosity, Juan went out of his way to help those in his community, always willing to lend a hand or offer support to anyone in need. His love for his family, his selflessness, his sense of humor, and his love of music will never be forgotten.
Juan's legacy lives on through his three children; five grandchildren, Scott Rivera, Shaun Rivera, Elizabeth Williams, Juan Escribano, and Josue Escribano; nine great-grandchildren, and brother, Miguel Rivera, age 92 who resides in Puerto Rico.
A Funeral Service will be held on November 30, 2024 at 9am at Brown Funeral Home located at 521 E Main St, Niles Michigan, followed by a burial at Silverbrook Cemetery where Juan will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Josefina, who passed away in 1991.
