Juan M. Villarreal "Sonny" passed away peacefully to join our Lord Jesus on April 2, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on November 13, 1950 in Laredo, Texas to Manuel Villarreal and Alicia Olivarez Villarreal. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family. It was during his school years that he formed a lasting bond with his childhood friend, Juanita Adargaz, whom he later married in 1968. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. A patriot at heart, Juan served his country with honor and distinction in the US Army. At the end of his service he transitioned into a new role as a Harlandale Independent School District Peace Officer, where he dedicated 38 years of his life to ensuring the safety and well-being of his community. However, Juan's true joy and purpose in life came from his role as "Pop" to his beloved grandchildren, whose ages range from 1month to 33 years old. He was a constant presence in their lives. For Juan, family always came first. In his later years, his greatest joy was simply being surrounded by his loved ones.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Juanita A. Villarreal; daughter, Misty Pauline Knapp (Thomas); sons, Charlie Leon Villarreal (Michelle), Vincent John Villarreal (Shawn); sisters, Celestina Sifuentes, Dolores Gonzales (Eliodoro), Alicia Herrera (Eduviges) and Juanita Scheper; grandchildren, Jessica Rose Villarreal Edwards (Jackson), Charles Villarreal (Jessica), Kathleen Monet Young, Brooke Knapp, Cheyenne Villarreal, Levi Villarreal, Makayla Villarreal; great-grandsons, Jenson Edwards and Dante Gonzalez.
Juan was preceded in death by his sisters, Menerva Vigil and brothers, Alejandro Nicholas Villarreal and Julian Villarreal, and Granddaughter, Mila Kinsley Villarreal.
