Obituary published on Legacy.com by Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapels and Cemeteries at Beth David on Dec. 22, 2022.
We are the luckiest family in the world-until yesterday (December 20, 2022) Judge Mel Grossman was our husband, father and Obi (grandfather). He passed peacefully in his 80th year, after 56 years of marriage to Nicki and as beloved father to Brenna Grossman Smisek (Stephen), Lissa Comess (Billy) and Tracee Evans (Cullen), and adored Obi to Isabella, Juliette, Spencer and Maddox Grossman Smisek, Emilee and Jaxson Comess, and Rebecca and Benjamin Evans. Mel's parents were Sam and Sadie Grossman and he was raised in Wallingford, CT. with his brother Paul.
We were proud to share him with the people of Florida as he served 36 years as a Circuit Court Judge. His thousands of rulings ensured both lawyers and litigants fair and honorable attention. He received dozens of prestigious awards during his career, but was most proud of the recognition he received from the United States Senate for enacting important protection for the elderly who were endangered. This was the result of his passion during his service as Administrative Judge of the Probate Division. He was even staff counsel to the Watergate Committee!!!
Dad was a proud Jew and was deeply moved, while praying with his entire family, at the Western Wall. He was a baker and enjoyed taking cooking lessons, with the family, in Positano, Italy. He later shared his passion and talent for photography with his family. He was a voracious reader and re-reader and taught his children and grandchildren the importance of and enrichment from reading.
Our family July Trips were his joy. Cruising, whale watching, hiking, international eating, and planting family trees in Israel were among his favorite moments, but nothing beat the news of the births of his grandchildren.
We will all miss him terribly, but the blessing of his memory will comfort us. Please do something to fight Alzheimer's---for Mel !!! The family requests donations be made in memory of Judge Mel Grossman to the
