Dr. Steven Grossman, a beloved father, son, and brother, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. He was 59.
He is survived by his parents George and Celia Grossman; his sister and brother-in-law Cindy Grossman and Mitch Goldman; his son and daughter-in-law Nathan and Amy Grossman; and his daughter Cassie Grossman.
Steven was born on December 18, 1965, in Queens, New York. His early years were shaped by a deep connection to his local Jewish community at the Free Synagogue of Flushing, summers spent lifeguarding at the North Flushing Swim Club, and a strong devotion to academics; he graduated from Bayside High School at just 16 years old. Steven went on to study microbiology at the University of Rochester and later earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Georgetown University, graduating cum laude in 1990 as part of the school's final dental school class.
Soon after his graduation, Steven moved to Binghamton, a place that quickly became home. It was there he built his life, raised his family, and began his long career at The Smile Designers.
As a father, Steven never missed a little league game, a dance recital, a talent show, a swim meet, or any of the seasonal events that packed his family's calendar. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and took the time to let them know it. He held close the memories and laughs of family vacations that spanned the United States, from San Francisco and San Diego to the Florida Keys, and even the less glamorous stops in Cleveland and Pittsburgh. On each trip, he stressed the importance of learning about local culture, trying regional cuisine, walking through museums, attending baseball games, and finding live music whenever he could (especially if Maroon 5 was in town).
To the wider community, Steven was more than a dentist, he was a dedicated caregiver who went above and beyond for his patients. He was most in his element at The Smile Designers, bouncing from room to room, warmly engaging with everyone who walked through the door. His remarkable memory stood out as he easily recalled where a patient's child went to college or how their parents were doing, always making each person feel seen and remembered.
Steven cared deeply about his patients' comfort and well-being. Whether someone came in for a routine check-up or called him early on a Sunday in distress, he treated every concern with urgency and compassion. If there was anything he could do to ease their pain or make life a little easier, he would find a way. It was never a burden to him. He genuinely loved helping people.
When he found time for himself, he enjoyed boating on Cayuga Lake, traveling to New York City to catch a show, and visiting his children, sister, and parents, precious moments that brought him great joy and left lasting memories for all who loved him.
A celebration of life will be held at Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc. 1905 Watson Blvd. Endicott, NY, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, beginning at 2:00pm and ending at 5:00pm. All who wish to pay their respects to Steven are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following charities that had Steven's unwavering support:
The Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton

Dr Grossman has been our family dentist since he bought the practice from Dr Gilbert. I just saw him a week or so ago. He was the nicest man ever and always asked after my kids and my dad and even my cats. He always went above and beyond to help me. I am so very sorry for your loss and our family extends our deepest sympathies and prayers to his family and to his staff also. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. I never saw him without a smile on his face. I am privileged to have known him.

Wow, I am shocked to see Dr. Grossman passed. Dr. Grossman has been my dentist for the last 6.5 years and I can't say I have ever had a nicer dental provider and experience. He was always kind and in a good mood and made sure to check everything over thoroughly making me feel confident that I was in good and caring hands. This news saddens me and my thoughts go out to his family, friends and all the staff at The Smile Designers. He will be missed.
