I was saddened to hear of the passing of Magistrate Moore. I worked in the courts for a short time, then came to know him as a faithful member of New Zion. A true example of kindness and Christian principles.

My mother Glenda was his assistant for over 20 years! She never had an unkind word to say about "the judge". She had a profound respect for him and loved working for him. A man of absolute character! It was truly an honor to know him.

My heart is broken but God has an angel. You saw me grow from a child to attorney as your church member, I have always looked up to you. You are a man of God, a man of justice, a man of peace and you were always supportive of me. Your kids were like my siblings and Mrs. Moore was like my mother. We have lost a great man who is the first black magistrate judge in the Eastern District Court. Judge you served with dignity experience and temperament that every judge should follow. However, God has gained a Judge in heaven, and also a man who loved the Lord who lived his life blessed. You will always be in my heart. I love your family and Judge you´re just moving on to your next hearing in heaven. Forever grateful for you believing in me and teaching me to be an articulate, analytical, astute, diligent, thorough, reliable, ethical, dedicated, compassionate, respected, trustworthy, insightful, strategic, sharp, and composed Attorney. Sending you and your family all my love and support. Attorney Marie Williams.

Deacon Judge Louis Moore was my Sunday School teacher. He was my spiritual role model, along with his dedicated wife Earlean. Deacon Moore had a good sense of humor, though serious at all times. When I relocated out of town he gave me wise counsel that will be with me as I continue my journey. My sincere condolences to the family.

It was an honor and a privilege to serve as law clerk to Judge Moore from 1994 until his retirement in 2012. Serving as Criminal Duty Magistrate, Judge Moore witnessed so much pain, tragedy and the worst of human behavior. Yet he treated every individual in his courtroom with dignity, kindness, compassion and understanding. His knowledge of criminal law was vast and his many years of experience made his decision-making seem instinctual. I will always treasure the memories of sharing a Friday king cake or birthday cake for someone while sitting around Judge Moore´s conference table. His booming voice and fine sense of humor on display as he recounted many legal "war stories." He was a great boss to his secretary, Glenda, and to me. He was also a man of strong faith and devotion to his church community. My sincere sympathy goes out to Earlean and his beautiful family, of whom he was, rightly, quite proud. A good-hearted man has passed but many, such as myself, will never forget him.
