Judith A. Bassette

Judith A. Bassette, 81, died suddenly from a massive stroke on April 26, 2024, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, while visiting family in Virginia Beach, VA. Judy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bill; her two children, Bennett (Andrea) and Leslie (Scott); and 9 grandchildren.
She was born on December 11, 1942 to Frank and Luella Kawa in Midland, Michigan. She was predeceased by her sister, Karen Abbe. Her brother, Dean Kawa, resides in Michigan.
Judy attended Michigan State University and received her teaching degree (1964). She went on to receive a Masters in Early Childhood Education, which she received on her birthday (1992). She taught for 43 years and was an elementary education administrator for 5 years. She dedicated most of her life to teaching in two Christian schools; Lansing Christian in Lansing, Michigan, and Norfolk Christian in Norfolk, Virginia. She taught Sunday School for several years and attended weekly Bible studies. One of her passions was to travel on short-term mission trips with her husband through her church in Virginia. She was able to complete 10 international missions to share the gospel of Jesus.
She and her husband moved to The Villages in Florida in 2018, where they were involved in their church, First Baptist Church, Leesburg, FL, Village Park Campus. In recent years after retiring, she also enjoyed Line Dancing Exercise Classes 4-5 times a week and weekly Bible studies. Judy was sharing the good news of Jesus up until the day of her stroke. She is at peace in heaven with her Savior. II Corinthians 5:8 gives us a great truth and hope, "being absent from the body is to be present with the Lord".
There will be a memorial service on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at 3:00pm at Trinity Church, 401 35th Street, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to Norfolk Christian Schools, 255 Thole Street, Norfolk, VA, 23505.
