Judy Janelli of Nantucket, age 70, passed away peacefully on December 17 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends. Judy was born in Jersey City, NJ and grew up in Leonia, NJ. She graduated from Leona High School in 1969 and attended Academie Moderne in Boston to study fashion.
Judy is predeceased by her parents, John A and Eileen (Skilton) Janelli as well as her brother Michael Janelli. She is survived by her sister Jeanne (Ed) Belock of Ventnor, NJ, sister-in-law Barbara Janelli of Brockton, MA and nephews Josh (Laura) Janelli, Ben (Kim) Janelli, Adam Belock, and Matt (Heather) Belock. Also survived by great nieces and nephew, Sara, Elizabeth, Parker and Matthew.
Judy fell in love with Nantucket in the seventies and split her time between the Island and New York City before permanently residing in Nantucket. Judy worked in many popular restaurants on the Island including The Straight Wharf, The Brotherhood of Thieves and the Languedoc Bistro. Judy also did craft services for the hit television show Spin City while living in NY.
Judy had a passion and gift for gardening. She also enjoyed making quirky crafts for her friends and family which we always looked forward to getting. She was a voracious reader and had a very eclectic list of her favorites.
She will not only be missed by her family but will be deeply missed and always remembered by her many, many friends on and off the Island. She was a good friend to so many.
The family would very much like to thank her dialysis and oncology teams at Nantucket Cottage Hospital for their care, love and support they gave Judy during this time.
Donations may be made in Judy's name to Nantucket Safe Harbor For Animals/NiSHA or Palliative and Supportive Care of Nantucket/ passcode.org or to a charity of your choice.
A celebration of Judy's life will be held on Nantucket at a later time.
