Hadley, MA - Judith "Judy" Bristol Laprade, 84, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025. Born on January 29, 1941 in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Bristol and Francis (Pucylowski) Bristol.
Judy was raised in Hadley and remained deeply rooted in her hometown throughout her life. After graduating from Hopkins Academy, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and her Master of Arts in Teaching from American International College in Springfield. She dedicated 30 years to teaching Business Education - including typing and shorthand - at her alma mater, Hopkins Academy. Judy was a gifted teacher, credited by hundreds of students for equipping them with lifelong typing skills.
In 1972, Judy built her home in Hadley where she lived until retiring to Florida in 1992 to be near her daughter. In 1998, Judy and her family returned to Massachusetts where she once again made her home in Hadley. A devoted grandmother, she lovingly cared for her grandchildren, Isabella and Brennan, two days each week, bringing . joy and support to her family.
In 2017, Judy moved in permanently with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, where she lived until her passing. Judy will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her generosity, and her tireless energy. Judy was passionate about caring for her pets - cats and guinea pigs alike - and her daily four mile walks. Known affectionately as "the turkey whisperer," Judy had a special bond with the local wild turkeys who visited her daily for the food and kindness she provided.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Terri (Laprade) Angelone and son-in-law, Silvano Angelone, of Stow, MA; her grandchildren, Isabella and Brennan Angelone; her sisters, Dawn Blyda of South Hadley, Gwen Quinlan of Hadley, and Lois Sadowski of Hadley, and her brother, Lloyd Bristol Jr. of Summerfield, FL. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial and visitation will be held on the morning of Thursday, October 16 at Douglas Funeral Home in Amherst, MA from 10-11:00AM. She will be laid to rest in Hadley immediately following the services.
