Judith Matteson Obituary

On January 26th, 2026 at 11:57pm, the Lord called Judith Marilyn Matteson home to be with him. She was born to Glenn W. and Esther L. Williams in Olean, NY on March 22, 1937.

She is predeceased by her husband James (Milford) Matteson, younger brother Eddie Williams and youngest brother Jerry Williams and Daughter-in-Law Brenda Matteson.

Surviving are her three children Mike Matteson of Addison NY, Janis Caparulo of Campbell NY, and Jeanne Matteson of Addison NY along with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was an alumna of the State University at Geneseo, NY. A few years later she and James were married on April 1, 1961. She began her career teaching first grade in Cuba, NY. Then she later taught first grade at Addison, NY until the birth of her three children. Then she went on to teach Kindergarten at Campbell, NY which later became Campbell-Savona where she became the first Begindergarten teacher in New York State. She retired from Campbell-Savona in 1995.

She was an avid camper and belonged to two Camping groups with her husband and children. They subsequently camped in all but a few states of the United States. She enjoyed living six months out of the year on her Florida property and the other half of the year at her New York home. Whether in NY or in Florida, she loved singing in the Church Choir's all year around. She also loved playing the piano for many years. Other activities included being a member of the Red Hat Society, bowling, hiking, and skiing. She always said that in any trial she loved to make people laugh because it was better to be uplifting. Judith will be remembered as a loving, kind person who will be missed by all.

Family and friends are invited to an open casket viewing at Flint Funeral Home, 10 Wall Street, Addison on Friday, January 30, 2026 from 4:00pm-6:00pm. A memorial service will be held the following weekend on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the funeral home at 11:00am. Her cremains will be interred in Addison Rural Cemetery immediately following the service.
