Judith McCabe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stockbridge Funeral Home LLC - Exeter on Jan. 28, 2026.
Judith Ann Bachelor Maiorana McCabe
February 20, 1940 – January 26, 2026

Judy passed away unexpectedly at her home in Exeter, New Hampshire. She was born in Gary, Indiana, the second child of the late William Bachelor and Lena (Piccolin) Bachelor.

Judy spent her youth moving frequently with her beloved mother and sister, Muriel Joyce, due to her father's military career. Judy's dear sister Muriel passed away less than two weeks before her, a loss that weighs heavily on the family. During wartime, her family lived for several years in Indiana and Illinois with the loving support of their grandparents while their father was stationed overseas. Judy also spent part of her high school years in Tokyo, Japan, before attending high school in Monterey, California.

It was in Monterey that Judy met Salvatore Maiorana. They married and had three cherished daughters: Cathy Wada (David), Joyce Karvelas (Jack), and Sally Maiorana (Mark). Following her divorce from Salvatore (who predeceased her), Judy built a successful career as a technical writer and editor for defense contractors, a role that required frequent relocations. Her work took her to Las Cruces, El Paso, and Colorado Springs. While living in Colorado Springs, Judy met and married Vinnie McCabe. They later settled in Stoneham, Massachusetts. Through her marriage to the late Vinnie, Judy's family grew to include Peggy McCabe, Tom McCabe (Ellen), Maureen Warren, and Ann Harte (Adrian).

Family was at the center of Judy's life. She treasured time spent with her children, twelve grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, and deeply valued her relationships with aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides of her family. Vacations were often devoted to visiting relatives across the country, sometimes involving long road trips with three young girls-and a large coffee can with a lid in the back seat to avoid necessary stops.

Raised in a military household, Judy maintained an immaculate and well-organized home, skills she generously passed on to those she loved. She was a gifted seamstress, creating countless garments, including several wedding dresses. Cats were a constant and cherished presence throughout her life. She was proud of her yard, and her favorite pastime was to enjoy a cold beer after her not so favorite day raking leaves. Her Catholic faith was also an important part of who she was.

Judy lived with Stage 4 bladder cancer for six years, time made possible by remarkable advances in treatment. Her family is deeply grateful for the additional years they were blessed to share with her.

Judy was deeply loved and will be sorely missed. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no memorial service or burial. A future mass will be held at St Michael Parish in Exeter, NH.

You Lost Your Mother
I know what you are feeling , I've felt it too my friend. Our mother's are now in heaven , looking down from above . The sadness you are feeling , I know it is profound And I know how hard it is , when others are around .
But take their love and cherish it , hold tight to it. Because the coming days will be difficult I fear . Only you will know your pain and only you can share it Please talk to family and friends about your grief , let us help you bear it .Your mother loved you greatly , as I know my mom did too Take to heart this simple truth , she wouldn't have wanted to leave you . You were everything to her. So don't rush yourself or your feelings now , take your time to say goodby And do not feel ashamed if you feel you need to cry . Think about her often , think about her love And think about her smiling at you from up above .

When I was a little girl Sally and I were best friends. We did everything together. Judy had us over quiet a bit comforting me as my parents divorced. As an adult Judy came and saw my Mom it was so great to see her again. They laughed and caught up on family news. It was a wonderful reunion. God bless you Cathy, Joyce, and Sally. Sending my deepest condolences Mardel Diener Kalinowski
