It is with great sadness that the family of Judith Ann (Romano) McNamara, 85, announces her peaceful passing on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Lowell General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She will be forever remembered.
Judy was the beloved wife of the late James D. McNamara, Jr. with whom she shared twenty-six years of marriage until his passing on January 8, 2010. Now she joins him on their forever journey.
She was born in Providence, RI on November 28, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Ernest (Watertown, MA) and Emma (Nigrelli) Romano (Narragansett, RI). Most recently, she resided in Chelmsford but lived on the North Shore of Massachusetts (Peabody/Danvers) for most of her adult life. Judy enjoyed her retirement years by wintering in Florida and spending summers in York, Maine.
As a High School English teacher in the Massachusetts School System, she retired from Essex Agricultural School over 30 years ago. She was a graduate of Newton College of the Sacred Heart, Newton, MA.
She loved her family and her friends, playing golf and a great game of cards. You name it she played it. Memories left behind include laughing with her North Shore friends, affectionately called the Bores; fun times in Florida golfing (did she ever tell you about her hole-in-one?); catching musical shows in Florida and Maine, and enjoying the friendships developed there.
She will lovingly be remembered by her children, Karen Woods and her husband Paul Tillas (Lancaster, PA), James D. McNamara III and his wife Maureen (Andover, MA), Susan and John Sullivan (Chelmsford, MA), Ann and Jon James (Danville, CA), and Charles and Kristen Woods (Chelmsford, MA). Saddened by her loss are her grandchildren, Shane and Ryan Sullivan, Gloria and Angela McNamara, Oliver, Emma, Cooper, and Abby Page, Miles Jones, Michael Woods, Meghan McKenney and Jack Maloney. Especially missing her snuggles is her great grandson, James Sullivan.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Smile Train at Smile Train
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 4 pm – 7 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Her funeral services and interment will be held privately.

So many great memories of Judy, her wonderful family and lifelong friends; Gardner Park, McCathy New Years Eve parties, Thanksgiving brunches and 4th of July bashes at 26 Mandalay. Sad Judy is gone, but so grateful for all the great memories we will always share. Wishing we could be with you, looking forward to seeing you all and sending lots of love.

Judy and I shared many happy hours together in Florida, playing cards, eating dnnners out, and she shared her home with me when I was awaiting notice to move to Virginia. We fought off Covid during that period, and moved to her new townhouse. She will be missed. My condolences
