Judith L Morrison, age 79, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family & friends on September 18, 2025 after a brief battle with breast cancer.
Judy was born in Anchorage, AK on February 14th, 1946 & raised in the Wasilla/ Palmer area. She always enjoyed being the Valentine baby as her birthday was never forgotten. Judy graduated from Palmer High School in 1964 & attended Kinman Business School in Spokane, WA. Upon her return from Washington, she met & married Thomas Morrison in 1966 & they enjoyed 40 years of marriage until his passing in 2006. They had one son, Michael Thomas, born in 1977.
Judy & Tom made their home on the Anchorage hillside for 23 years before moving to Palmer, AK in 2000. Judy was a very talented & gifted quilter, her entrepreneurial spirit & passion for creating led her to open her own quilting business, Calicoes & Quilts in 1982, which she operated for 17 years before moving to Palmer. Judy is a published author who wrote her own book in 1996 for the New American Quilt Series, titled "Calicoes & Quilts, Unlimited". She was a wonderful teacher & taught many classes on the art of quilt making. Her happy place was in front of a sewing machine and fabric was her canvas. Judy's quilts grace many homes of family & friends, they are a work of art that will be treasured for decades to come. She especially loved making quilts for all the new babies. Our Veterans were also the special recipients of her talent as she made many quilts for them through the Quilts of Valor program. Judy was an active member of the Valley Quilters Guild & formed lasting friendships with the members who shared her passion.
Judy will be remembered for her warm welcoming smile, compassionate spirit, listening ear, infectious laughter, unique sense of humor, her enduring positive attitude as well as a dose of independent stubbornness! She experienced many physical challenges after a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis decades ago but never let that dampen her positive attitude. Judy loved to swim as that was the one exercise that allowed her body to move freely & gain strength. She was a regular at the Palmer Pool where she made many friends over the years. She also enjoyed reading, baking , her beautiful flowers during the summer months & time with family & friends.
Judy greatest joy in life was her son, Michael. He put his adult life on hold 18 years ago to be his mom's caretaker. Their bond was a special gift that few of us parents ever experience with our adult children. Their home was filled with love, laughter & a dry sense of humor that they both shared & enjoyed. Judy was so grateful for his loving care over the years & expressed it often. Michael's good friend, Will, described this journey well "Michael delivered her to the station & the Lord took her home." She touched the lives of all that knew her and she will be deeply missed. Judy was a member of Highway Chapel Church of God for many years in Palmer, where her & Tom acknowledged Jesus Christ as their Lord & Savior. We find great peace & joy knowing she walked through heavens gate free of all that bound her physically on this earth.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Morrison, parents Thurman Betts & Jacqueline Grow and her brother David E Grow Jr. She is survived by her son, Michael Morrison of Palmer, AK, Sisters, Sally Weiland, Glenda Ingram, Gail Edgerton & brother, Michael Grow all of Palmer, AK, also many nieces, nephews & cousins.
