Judith Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 30, 2025.
Judith Barbara Smith, 87, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in St. Paul, MN, on March 4, 1938, the oldest daughter of Arthur Loren Aamot (1908-1989) and Violet B. (Schmieding) Aamot (1910-1999).
Judy, as she was known, was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota, where she majored in Spanish with the goal of becoming a Spanish teacher. Her career path took a different direction, however, and she spent almost 40 years working in the billing department of Hennepin County Medical Center.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Maceo Smith (1930-2003), whom she married on July 4, 1959. She is survived by her sisters Sandra K. Squires (Lee) and Mary Ellen Thierheimer, and by her nephews Scott D. Milani (Paula Wendt) and Jeffrey M. Milani (Laurie) as well as her friends and her church family.
Judy was an avid reader, the loving "parent" of many pets over the years, and a lifelong learner. She enjoyed studying foreign languages, modern dance, Bible study sessions, her work colleagues, and fishing with her husband Maceo. She was a longtime active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, participating in many church gatherings and in the church's School of Urban Ministry.
A funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1901 Portland Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55404 on Monday, November 3rd, 2025. The family will receive friends at 10a.m. prior to the service at 11a.m., followed by interment at Lakewood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Her family would like to express gratitude to the staff at Redeemer HealthCare and the team from Grace Hospice for their compassionate care of Judy.
