Judith Spillane

Judith (Burhoe) Spillane, 79, of West Hartford, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Hartford Hospital.
Judy is survived by her son, Thomas M. Spillane Jr, his wife Deirdre and their daughter Kiley; her brothers, Steven, David and his wife Janet, and Douglas with his wife Debbie, as well as her nieces and nephews.
A lifelong resident of West Hartford, Judy was in the first class at Wolcott Elementary School. She attended Talcott Junior High School, graduated from Conard High School, and then went on to attend The Morse School for Business in Hartford. She started her career working for the United Church of Christ and then for Hooker and Holcomb in West Harford until her retirement. There she made many lifelong friends.
Judy's greatest joy was her family, mainly her son Thom and later his daughter Kiley. She raised Thom as a single parent and was his greatest supporter. She was the cub scout Den Mother, taught him how to skate and play hockey, bringing him to Whalers games (not knitting or leaving early) she encouraged, cheered and participated in his BMX racing, winning a race or two herself. He remembers hearing her cheering for him above all other sounds at the races. She may have been tiny, but she was mighty.
As a grandmother, a role she excelled at, she was able to spend endless hours with Kiley in our blended household, reading to her daily, baking, hanging out in the pool or going on Kiley's open house tours (in our house) and later filling out all the FAFSA paperwork. She attended all the school functions, every Friday town meeting at Wolcott, and baked the best blueberry muffins for every birthday party at school, with classmates often requesting them any time they saw her. Judy was such a big part of Kiley's daily life, and we are forever grateful they had that bond.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking you to donate to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in Judy's honor, to help young warriors fight the battle against cancer that Judy could not win herself.
The family is planning to share memories of Judy during a Celebration of Life in the Crystal Room of Mercy Hall at the University of St. Joseph, 1678 Asylum Ave, West Hartford, on Saturday, (August 3), from 10am to 12pm. Please wear your flips flops in memory of Judy and be ready to share your best stories of your times with her. She will be missed daily and will always be in our hearts wherever we go.
