Judith Wetzel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mickelson Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc. on Jan. 12, 2026.
Judith I. "Judy" Wetzel, age 92, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2025, at her home.

Judy was born on May 23, 1933, a daughter of the late Edwin and Olga (Kroll) Wetzel. She attended Gresham High School and graduated with the Class of 1951. Following high school, she attended college and earned her nursing degree in 1960. Energetic and hardworking, Judy dedicated her life to caring for others throughout her nursing career, working at numerous facilities as a geriatric and occupational nurse. She had a deep passion for helping others, and her work as an occupational nurse was truly her calling.

In 1991, Judy returned to Shawano to be closer to her family. She loved reminiscing about her childhood and growing up on the family farm in Gresham, experiences that helped shape the person she became. In her free time, Judy enjoyed sewing and gardening.

Judy was a good and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Shawano. She was also an active community volunteer through the Women's Club and was honored with the Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award in 2018.

Survivors include her son, Kent (Dee Dee) Koehler of Shawano; four grandchildren, Andrew (Lindsay) Koehler, Matthew (Shannon) Koehler, Tara (Curtis) Anderson, and Evan (Elizabeth) Ebert; great-grandchildren, Ella Anderson, Luke Anderson, and Owen Ebert; and sister, Claire Hirsch. She is further survived by her nieces and nephews, Lisa Tonne, Brian (Lisa) Hirsch, Doug (Nida) Hirsch, Jodi Brunni, Lori (Pam Wells) Wetzel, Nona (Tim) Burr, and Mokwang "Mo" (Richard Lindsay) Lima. Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Wille; siblings, Joan Stake and David Wetzel; and daughters, Ann Ebert and Amy Gorges.

A memorial service for Judith Wetzel will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 1:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Shawano. Pastor Gail Irwin will officiate. Visitation will begin at the church on Saturday at 12:00 pm and continue until the time of service.

In lieu of plants and flowers, the family prefers memorials in Judy's name to SAM25.
