Judith Carolyn Winnenberg passed away peacefully in Hilton Head, SC on July 9, 2024. Born in Piqua, Ohio on January 20, 1940, to Virginia and Eldon Englert, Judy was the youngest of three girls, Lois Jean, Janet and Judy.
Always social and fun to be around, she was the Homecoming Queen and a high school cheerleader. After graduating from Piqua High School, she spent one year at Marygrove College then transferred to the University of Dayton. It was there, that she met John Winnenberg, the love of her life, on a blind date at a St. Patrick's Day party. They were soon engaged and married on January 27, 1962. They eventually shared 60+ years together.
They raised three children, Kathy, John and Carolyn. Judy had many careers from home maker to nursery school owner and teacher to elementary oceanography teacher. She also ran a successful Mary Kay business and sold luxury handbags. Everything she did, she did with gusto! She had plenty of energy. They saw each child married and had the joy of five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
After they retired, they settled in Wintergreen VA where they truly enjoyed the retired life of golf, their pet, Zoe, bridge and dinners with friends. Judy's favorite pastime was bridge. She was a terrific duplicate player often going to bridge tournaments in different states! Always the card shark, she was!
Judy is preceded in death by her husband, Henry John Winnenberg, her parents, Eldon and Virginia Englert, and her sister, Lois Jean Maguire. She is survived by her sister, Janet Dignan, children Kathryn Lynn Sutter (Kevin), John David Winnenberg (Aimee), Carolyn Elizabeth Congelosi (Carl), grandchildren John Jorgen Sutter (Amy), Henry Scott Sutter (Erica), Harry Jacob Winnenberg, Claire Alexandra Congelosi, Kaitlin Nicole Winnenberg, and great grandchildren, George Henry Sutter and Remington Jane Sutter.
A private family ceremony will be held July 27, 2024.
