Mrs. Judy Sue Easter Bacon-Stevens passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, at the age of 83. She was born on April 16, 1942, in Surry County, to the late Lewis A. and Minnie Horton Easter. Judy was a retired hairdresser who lived a life filled with music, joy, and love for others. She enjoyed playing cards, going to the beach, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Above all, she treasured spending time with her family. A faithful member of Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church for more than 40 years, she remained dedicated to her faith and community until her health began to decline. Judy had a heart for serving others, especially the elderly. She canned food for them, shared her musical gifts, and even donated a piano to a local nursing home. Music was at the center of her life; she sang solos and in choirs at every church she attended and often set up and performed karaoke. Judy also held a deep respect for the military. She supported her first husband’s Army career wholeheartedly, traveling with him to each duty station, including three years in Germany, despite the distance from her family in Mount Airy. After the passing of her first husband, Judy later married Jimmy Stevens. They enjoyed 16 wonderful years together and traveled extensively, especially with the grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jimmy Stevens; her daughters, Alma Strickland (Johnny), Susan Humphries (Gary), Monica Bacon (Tonia), and Sandra Smith (Kevin); her grandchildren, James Eric Goodman (Monika), Andrew “Drew” Goins (Amber Rogers), Lewis James “L.J.” Goins (Karissa), Shaska Hill (Brandon), Kevin Humphries, Karter Harrison-Humphries, Montana Mick, Austin Mick, Madison Cranford, John Strickland, Laura Nelson, Samantha Runnfeldt (Drew), and Maggie Kennedy (Chris); and the son she never had, Bryan Kidd (Pat). Also surviving are seventeen great-grandchildren; her siblings, Roscoe Easter (Patty Carpenter), Billy Ray Easter (Shirley), and Ronda Cox (Ray); a sister-in-law, Christine Easter; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her three girls, William R. Bacon, SFC, Retired, United States Army; two sons-in-law, Steve Goodman and Benny Goins; a granddaughter, Kellie Humphries; a grandson, Rocky Smith; an “adopted” son, Roger Bowman; and her siblings and extended family, Mary Collins (Maynard), Alene Easter (Bill Mabe), Jimmie Easter (Faye), Junior Easter, and Betty Easter. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Richard Loman and Dr. David Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love, care, and compassion shown by Holly Grosz, the staff at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Facility, and the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017; or a local toy drive for the children of Surry County.
