Judy Carole Moffitt (Norris), 90, of
Powderly, Texas passed away peacefully at her home on January 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. A celebration of Judy's life and funeral services will be held at the Gospel Lighthouse in Powderly on Wednesday January 28 at 2PM, with family visitation one hour prior. Reverend Mark Hutchison will officiate. Pallbearers will be the six grandchildren and interment will follow at Grant Cemetery in Oklahoma.
Born on June 23, 1935, in
Grant, OK, she grew up with a love of friendships, family, learning and religion that would define her life's work. As a young lady, Judy played the piano every Sunday at the Grant Methodist church and continued this practice throughout her life at local services. Judy graduated from Grant High School and completed her degree in education at East Texas State University. Judy dedicated over 30 years to education as a beloved teacher, beginning in Hugo to Richardson, Amarillo, Galveston, Texas City and ending in Powderly at Aaron Parker Elementary for North Lamar School District. She retired after a fulfilling career, leaving behind generations of grateful former students who still remember her. She was a member of Texas Retired Teachers Association.
On December 30, 1952, She married S-Sgt Donald K Moffitt in DeQueen, Arkansas Together they welcomed 4 children, 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren
A faithful member of the Powderly Methodist Church, she was active in the congregation for decades. She found joy in her church family, participating in Sunday school teaching, women's groups, choir, piano playing and community outreach, and living her faith through service and compassion. For the past 5 years she was also a dedicated member of the Women of the Word Gospel Lighthouse, the WOW GALS, bible study group.
Judy also cherished time with her friends and family, delighting in family gatherings and her morning walking group. She lived a full life marked by grace, dedication, and quiet strength. She was a part of the Powderly camping group that spent many weekends at the lake in their campers and travel trailers and loved to camp the Labor Day weekend at the Choctaw Festival. Judy was a proud tribal member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents Jack and Lucille Norris, sisters, Ray Jean (Harold) Streetman, Joy Parker, Ann (Bice) McMurray, brothers Jackie (Peggy) Norris and Joe Pate Norris, and beloved great grandson Jaxon Robbins. Brothers and sister-in-laws; Alvin (Rosalee) Moffitt, Odas (Doris) Moffitt, Eldon (Monte) Moffitt, Alton (Betty) Moffitt, Johnny (Faye) Moffitt, Bobby Hamm and Thomas Moffitt.
Judy is survived by her children: son, Don Moffitt (Carla) of Paris; daughters, Judith Moffitt of Riverside, CA, Cindi Briscoe (David Allen) of Powderly, Angela Chadwick (Jimbo) of Powderly; grandchildren; Tara Taylor, Amy Robbins (Casey Corey), Matt Moffitt (Carlye), Scott Moffitt, Brandon Chadwick (Chelsea), Blake Chadwick (Kate); great grandchildren, Nichole Taylor, Michelle Price, Jayci Robbins, Macy Moffitt, Max Moffitt, Mabrie Moffitt, Katie Brown, Blair Chadwick, Nolan Chadwick, Wyatt Chadwick and William Chadwick, and three great-great grandchildren, Emma, Grace and Oliver; Sisters in laws, Joan Hamm and Ralphann Moffitt, and many nieces, nephews, former students, colleagues and dear friends.
