Born on October 29, 1946, at the Minden Medical Center. She lived in Sibley and is a 1964 graduate of Sibley High School. She was the Valedictorian of her class. During that summer she began her pursuit of a BS degree from the School of Pharmacy at Northeast Louisiana State College, graduating in the fall semester of 1969. At the end of the Fall Semester of 1968, she married the young man whom she had, in 1966, met on a “blind date.” Their loving marriage spanned 58 years.
Judy served as a registered pharmacist for 50 years before retiring in 2015. She began her career at a pharmacy in Meridian, Mississippi. She lived there during the four years her husband served in the Air Force and in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1973. They then returned to Minden; Judy worked at Lowery Pharmacy, as well as retail and independent pharmacies, retiring from North Caddo Pharmacy in Vivian, LA. Judy enjoyed explaining medicines, answering questions regarding those medicines, and gently easing customers’ minds about their medicines. She was ever-faithful to taking the time to assist customers.
Judy enjoyed photography, reading novels, and occasionally sewing. She was a loving wife and devoted to her two “Furry” “children”, her Maine Coon cats Chase and Hunter. They would hear her vehicle park in the carport and run to greet her as she entered the house.
Judy was a member of First Baptist Church Minden. She enjoyed socializing with friends and being a devoted wife. Her career brought her great happiness. She treasured the time she spent with friends and loved ones, especially her close friend Sharon Rolen (deceased).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherwood and Janice Akin; her sister Jerri Akin Sharpe; and her brother-in-law John D. Orr. She is survived by her devoted husband Wayne Orr and her brother Gordon Akin and wife Ivie of Brunswick, GA.
Wayne would like to express sincere appreciation to the administrators and the staff of The Columns of Germantown, to the staff of Passages Hospice, and to the individual case workers, especially Ms Brenda.
Pallbearers will be Andy Gilbert, Matthew Tucker, Joe Ogden, Noah Woodard, Robert Kidd, Bob Moorehead, Matthew Moorehead, and Graham Lemoine.
