Judith Mae Schmitz, 82, of Stuart, Nebraska, passed away on the morning of August 18, 2025, in her home. She was born on November 19, 1942, in Burke, South Dakota, to Alta and Vincent Small, the second of five children. She graduated from high school in Naper, Nebraska, in 1960.
On April 4, 1964, she married John Schmitz of Bonesteel, South Dakota. Together they raised four children: Jackie Reeh of Seattle, Washington; Joan Schmitz of Stuart, Nebraska; Jenny Schmitz of Mission, South Dakota; and Jeff Schmitz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Judith earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Sinte Gleska University and devoted 29 years to the Todd County School District as an educator. She was widely respected for her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the academic and personal growth of her students.
After retirement, Judith became an active member of the Stuart, Nebraska, community church and continued to take great pride in her family.
She is survived by her children; Jackie (Brent) Reeh of North Bend, WA, Joan Schmitz of Stuart, Jenny Schmitz of Mission, SD, and Jeff Schmitz of Sioux Falls, SD;10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, and siblings; Jane Hoffman of New Salem, ND and Lana (Dan) Cadwallader of Atkinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Schmitz; her son, Rodney Schmitz; and her grandson, Austin Schmitz.
Judith's life was marked by unwavering dedication to her family, her students, and her faith, and her enduring legacy of love, service, and guidance will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
