Julia Josephine Bent, 85, of Elgin, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Born on June 14, 1937, in Bad Homburg, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Josef Kilb and Victoria Zammit Kilb. Mrs. Bent was a World War II survivor, in which this war claimed her father.
Julia came to the United States in 1962 after marrying her husband, Robert Castor, Sr. Together they had two children, daughter, Victoria Cushman, and son, Robert Castor, Jr., of South Carolina. Throughout the years, she traveled all over the country. She had many talents including speaking two languages and racing cars. Mrs. Bent was a successful business owner of multiple restaurants. Julia's German Stammtisch has been a pillar in the area for 35 plus years. She was a true firecracker, filled with so much life and love. Mrs. Bent was cherished not only by family and friends, but the community. She will be dearly missed by many.
In addition to her children, she is survived by her daughter-in-law, Candace Castor; brother, Roland Kilb (Karen), four grandchildren, Helen Cushman, Logan Cushman (Richard), Mia Atenico, and Jackson Castor; great-grandson, James Cushman; and nephew, Martin Kilb.
A celebration of life will be held privately by the family. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
