New Orleans, LA - Julia Ann Madden David passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her only child, William Myron David and two grandchildren, William Tate David and Eleanor Ann Margaret David. She is also survived by two brothers, Merritt Madden and John Madden. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William Bernard David. Also passing before her were her brothers Michael Madden and Benjamin Madden as well as her parents-Mary Ben Madden and Myron Madden.

Julia was born in New Orleans, Louisiana while her father was Senior Pastor at St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church. She attended McMain Junior High School and Alcee Fortier High School. Julia was fluent in French and German and while in High School she was one of the winners of a nationwide contest that only selected 14 students from the entire country to study in Paris for the summer. She also was a foreign exchange student for a semester in Germany before graduating high school with honors and going on to study at LSU. After LSU, Julia graduated with Honors from Loyola Law school while raising her one year old son. She then clerked at the Louisiana Supreme Court and then opened a private practice in Mandeville where she lived with her husband, Bill, the rest of her life.

Julia was known to be beautiful and highly intelligent as well as an avid teller of cajun jokes. She shined when hosting and was considered a gourmet cook. She was a talented gardener and was president of the Mandeville Gardening Club. She attended St. Timothy Church and wrote the monthly newsletter for the Church for many years. This task she took seriously and she desired to give spiritual encouragement to all she met during her life. This encouragement took many forms- but she was known to be of solace to many and to always provide reassurance and comfort to those that were in need. As an attorney, Julia logged many hours of Pro Bono legal work to those who could not afford an attorney. After her retirement from the law, she took up painting and even sold her artwork at various galleries in Covington. Julia had a great eye for beauty and her immense love of the nature of Louisiana was her inspiration. As a mother to her son William, she was affectionate and ever present and she could always be counted on to help with school projects and especially help him with the difficult task of learning French.

A funeral service will be held for Julia on Friday, November 21st at Bagnell and Son Funeral Home. The visitation hours will be from 10am-12pm, with the service itself beginning at 12pm and then a reception to follow. Julia will be interred the following week next to her beloved husband at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell.
