Julia Byrne Bonaparte Ennis, a beloved wife, mother, sister and teacher, passed away peacefully in Niskayuna, New York on November 7, 2025, with her family by her side. Julia had lived fully while coping with Uveal Melanoma for over 4 years. She was 54.
Born in Kingston, New York in 1971, Julia was the much-loved youngest daughter of the late William B. Byrne, Jr. and Mary J. O'Brien Byrne.
Julia graduated from Catskill Senior High School in 1989 and then went on to study education at SUNY Potsdam. She earned her M.S. at the State University of Albany.
Julia loved to travel, spending 6 months in Ireland during her schooling, and even made a recent trip to Finland where she took a close appreciative look at the school system.
Among Julia's many accomplishments was the renovation of two homes, where she did much of the work herself to make them a home for her and Marcelle. She also appreciated art and crafts, genealogy, and loved her two cats, Jimi and Paco.
A bright and spiritual soul, Julia was witty, warm, Irish to the core, and always ready for laughter and a story. She had a way of finding light even in difficult moments, making everyone around her feel seen and cared for.
Julia was a devoted educator at Schenectady High School. Her strength, compassion, and determination in her classrooms gave Julia's students the feeling of accomplishment and belonging. Julia met the challenges of her classes with grace and determination. She met her students' needs in particular moments, without sacrificing their ever-growing educational needs. Julia was an inspiration to her students, refusing to give up on them no matter the struggle. She always exhibited compassion and understanding towards both her students and colleagues.
Julia was an integral part of the Schenectady High School family, respected and loved by both her students and peers. Those who knew Julia would describe her as a steadfast and consistent friend with a bubbly personality, witty sarcasm, and a smile! Despite the challenges she faced, she came to work every day and never complained. The compassion and joy she shared with her colleagues and students will leave an imprint on the school forever.
Julia leaves behind her loving husband Paul Ennis, her child Marcelle Bonaparte, siblings Mady Pennisi, Bill, Anne Snyder (Victor), Brien (Laurie), Bonnie, Michael (Coleen), Lucia (Joseph O'Connor), Kay (James Maney), Garret, and John, and lifelong friends from her days growing up on Liberty Street in Catskill. Julia is predeceased by Andrea Byrne and Joseph Pennisi.
Julia's humor, strength, and heart will stay with us always. Blessed by our time with her, we will carry her laughter, stories and love quietly within us with deep gratitude.
Services for Julia will take place in the spring according to her wishes.
