Julia A. Gilboy, 93, a longtime resident of New Castle, PA, passed away peacefully early Thursday evening, June 5, 2025, in Falls Run Nursing and Rehabilitation, Fredericksburg, VA.
Julia was born July 22, 1931, in Ellwood City, PA, the daughter of the late Stephen and Anna (Strazula) Toth. She was a 1949 graduate of Shenango High School.
In 1953, she met the love of her life, Paul Gilboy, and they were married May 21, 1955. They were happily married for 63 years until Paul's death in September 2018.
A woman of deep faith, Julia was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish of New Castle, formerly St. Joseph the Worker Church, where she served as a cantor and wedding soloist, and sang in the choir for 45 years.
Julia loved music and was a charter member of the New Castle Chapter of Sweet Adelines, where she sang in a quartet. She was also active at the New Castle Playhouse in the 1950s.
In her early years, Julia worked in the prothonotary's office in the Lawrence County Courthouse. She retired from Blair Strip Steel Company, New Castle, where she worked as a secretary.
Julia enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She especially loved being with her three grandsons, of whom she was extremely proud.
She is survived by a son, Christopher Gilboy (Lisa), of Freehold, NJ; a daughter, Ann Ellis (Johnnie), of Mineral, VA; a brother, Ernest Toth, of New Castle; three grandsons, Matthew Gilboy (Danielle), Kevin Gilboy (Anisha), and Sean Ellis; and two great-grandchildren, Rosemary and Walter Gilboy.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday (6-10-25) and 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday (6-11-25), both in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (6-11-25) in Holy Spirit Parish – St. Mary Church, 124 N. Beaver St., New Castle, with Rev. John Gizzler, as celebrant.
