Julia "Julie" Hartsough, of Pittsville, passed away on October 3, 2024, at the age of 73.
Julie was born December 11, 1950 in Marshfield, WI; daughter of the late Lawrence and Madeline (Debevec) Herzberg. She grew up in the nearby area of Pittsville, graduating from Pittsville High School in 1969. While in high school, Julie spent two summers in Chicago, working as a mother's helper. Following graduation, Julie and her close friends spent the summer waitressing in Lake Geneva.
Following her summer of waitressing, Julie began working at a phone company in Madison, WI. Two years later, she married the love of her life, Glen Hartsough, on October 2, 1971. In their early years of marriage, the couple lived in various cities, growing their family along the way. While living in Baldwin, WI, they joyfully welcomed their son, Brent. Their daughter, Melanie, joined the family while they were living in St. Paul, MN. From there, they relocated to Minnetonka, MN, before deciding to head back to Julie's hometown of Pittsville to be closer to family. Julie was a doting mother, staying at home to raise their children, while also helping on the family mink ranch. Furthermore, she worked at Stora Enso in Stevens Point for several years and enjoyed working at a local greenhouse.
Julie was the definition of an adventurous soul. In her lifetime, she bravely tried bungee jumping and skydiving! Additionally, she and Glen loved to travel the world. They were fortunate to visit New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Fiji, Japan and Kenya - just to name a few. While international travel brought her joy, her fondest memories were traveling with her family, no matter the destination. Every spring, the family was sure to embark on an annual trip to somewhere warm; with many trips to the Caribbean, Mexico, and Hawaii. Julie also traveled with dear friends, Jim and Vicki, and ventured often to visit close family friends in Montana. Upon retiring, Julie and Glen spent their winters in Surprise, AZ, where Julie loved attending painting classes and workout sessions as well as reading and relaxing by the pool. While Julie's adventurous spirit took her all over the world, her greatest accomplishments in life were right at home; her family. While she loved them all equally, her grandchildren had a special place in her heart. She was their number one fan at all sporting events and cherished her time with them, in any activity, but greatly enjoyed playing games and card games.
Julie will always be remembered as a kind person with a great sense of humor. Her love for her friends and family was limitless, extending beyond people as she loved her dogs just as much. While Julie shared an endless amount of love with those around her, she also shared her talents. She was an excellent cook, from making pizzas to baking cookies. She also enjoyed gardening, both vegetables and flowers.
Julie is lovingly survived by her husband, Glen of Pittsville; their son, GR Brent (Jennifer) of Plover; their daughter, Melanie (Gregory) Hubbard of New Glarus, WI; and her grandchildren, Jack, GW Grant, Garrett, Harrison, Brooklyn, Finnley, and Addison.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Madeline; and her siblings, Jeanne Knutson, Janice Rasmussen, Joan Herzberg, and David Herzberg.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the many caregivers that aided in Julie's care as well as the support provided to her and her family. Additionally, to all the neighbors, friends, and family for the many well wishes.
A funeral service will be held for Julie at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Shuda Funeral Chapel - 3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the funeral home on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and again on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
