Julia Ann "Julie" Morin

Julia Ann "Julie" Morin (nee Vorva), our beloved mom, grandma (Grammie), sister, relative, friend, teacher, and colleague, passed away on March 20, 2022, at age 85. She left her mark on each of us and changed our lives forever. After a lifetime of perseverance and determination, she now gets to - finally - rest. A job well done, Julie. We will miss you so much.
Born January 11, 1937, in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, Julie was the daughter of Frank and Mary (Pavlov) Vorva. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel High School in Wyandotte, Michigan, and then attended Madonna College for two years before earning her B.S. in 1965 and her M.A. in 1970 from Eastern Michigan University, achieving her dream of becoming a teacher and the first one in her family to earn a college degree. She married the love of her life, Rolland ("Ron") Morin, on August 2, 1958, and helped put the two of them through college while working full time and raising their family in South Rockwood. She was employed by several schools, including Ritter Elementary School, where she taught second and third grade from 1965 until her retirement on November 3, 1986. Throughout her 29-year career, she received many accolades, none more meaningful than former students - years after leaving her classroom - ringing her doorbell or writing to tell her how much she impacted their lives. After her retirement, she continued to help her husband with his business. In 1992, after Ron retired, they spent their time between homes in Palm Harbor, Florida, and Canton, Michigan.
She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary's Church in South Rockwood, Michigan, Resurrection Parish in Canton, Michigan, and St. Luke Catholic Church in Palm Harbor, Florida. In her spare time, she liked to golf, play cards, walk, read, travel, shop, do crafts, go to the casino, and participate in service projects for the church and her community, and constantly doted on her grandchildren, who adored her. She provided unforgettable memories and life adventures (e.g., picking strawberries, squeezing oranges, baking, knitting, sewing, shopping, beach and swim outings, fort-building, sleepovers, tea parties, Washington D.C. trips, golf cart rides, driving lessons, and so much more) - always fun and laughter. She was tireless and gave everything her all. She will never be forgotten.
Julie was a very generous person, both with her time and financially. She wanted her children to have everything she had and more, and she sacrificed to make it happen. At Christmas time there were countless gifts under the tree, each personally selected. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary. She remembered everything - every detail - up until she could no longer speak. And rarely was she wrong - if she said it, it almost always turned out to be true. Family was very important to her. She treasured the times when her children were together and frequently cooked delicious family meals. She also relished her connection with her sisters, especially as they grew older. She loved to be continually on the go - doing nothing was never her style - and was a great navigator who could find her way anywhere.
Julie leaves behind to cherish her memory: her children, Mark (Shanna) Morin, Angela (Stuart) Sedlacek, Martin Morin, and Laura Duncan; her sisters, Rose Conway and Marcia Christensen; 10 grandchildren, Ashley, Kate, Austin, Alex, Bradley, Julianne, Drew, Olivia, Benny, and Jacob; one step-grandchild, Olivia M.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron (after 60 years of marriage); her parents, Mary and Frank Vorva; and her brothers, Frank and Phillip Vorva.
In accordance with Julie's wishes, cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ford Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes. Julie preferred to celebrate with her friends and family during her life, so there will be no after-life celebration. The family welcomes mass offerings for Julie at any place of worship.
