Julia Marie Bull Schomaker, 94, of Rayne, Louisiana, died peacefully in the presence of family on Saturday, December 6th, 2025, at Calcutta House Hospice in Lafayette, LA.

Julia was born in Rayne Louisiana on September 19, 1931. She graduated from Rayne High School and later from Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans Class of 1952. During her time in New Orleans, she discovered her love of nursing and her love for her future husband, Harold "Hap" Schomaker, Sr. After marrying on February 10, 1952, Julia and Hap resided in Metairie, LA where they raised their three children, Harold Jr, Stephen and Peggy. They were parishioners of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Metairie where Julia served in the Altar Society and continued her nursing career. At home, Julia was known for her skills in the garden and in the kitchen. From growing a variety of plants, fruits and vegetables to cooking Cajun recipes, Julia was always providing for others in one way or another.

Julia was the epitome of resiliency, whether she was relocating and rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina or recovering from hip surgery at the age of 92. After Hap's passing, Julia made the permanent move back to her hometown of Rayne, where she was able to reconnect with many familiar faces.

Julia is survived by her three children, Harold Schomaker Jr (Lucindy), Stephen Schomaker Sr (Denyse) and Peggy Schomaker Prejean (Michael), her grandchildren, Carly (Rob) Evens, Lauren Schomaker, Stephen (Ashley) Schomaker Jr, Meghan (Brian) Widmann, Sean McGovern, Michael (Hannah) Prejean, II, Zachary (Kati) Prejean and great-grandchildren Eleanor, Myles, Oliver, Wyatt, Wade, Emmy, Eli, Ellen, Cecelia, Ila, and Sylvie. She is also survived by her twin brother Julian Bull of Texas, sister-in-law Lydia Bull and many nieces (great), and nephews (great).

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to a very dear family friend Debra Ozone, and Julia's sitters Michelle Nonette, Geraldine Cormier, Ramona Semere, Ella Burleigh along with the staff of Leading Home Care of Crowley, Ochsner Lafayette General ICU nurses, and Calcutta House at Hospice of Acadiana for their compassion and care.

The family has requested the visitation to be held at Duhon Funeral Home in Rayne, Louisiana on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday at 6:30 P.M. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will resume on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 11:30 A.M. until time of service at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Metairie, Louisiana.
