Obituary of Julia (Julie, Jewel, Jule Dale) Tefft
Born in a far house in
Jefferson, Iowa on November 1, 1937, Julie joined a full and happy family of 10. She had a wonderful Catholic upbringing that included daily references to the Lord's presence in their lives and included nine years of Catholic School education in Iowa and Nebraska. Julie obtained a teaching certificate before the twins were born and taught elementary school for years. She attended Western Michigan University where she earned a bachelor's degree in Education and a master's degree in Teaching. She also attended Madonna University in
Livonia, Michigan and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She served in nursing for 17 years, coupling the two careers simultaneously.
She and Scott, Sr. enjoyed raising their twins; Patricia and Michael, and younger son; Scott Tefft, Jr. Julie was involved in many volunteer assignments during those years with her church as well as in her children's schools. She taught elementary school for 20 years and religious education classes also for 20 years. She served as a girl scout leader while her daughter was involved in scouts. Julie and Scott, Sr. were also leaders in a charismatic prayer group for 10 years.
After her children were grown and on their own, Julie and Scott moved to Sun City, Texas, for retirement and to be close to the grandchildren. She enjoyed interacting with the grandkids and great grandkids for many years and answered to the designation "G-Nana" (Great-Nana) when the great grandchildren arrived.
During her retirement years, Julie kept up her high energy lifestyle. She had a great time participating in religious Catholic education programs and women's bible studies. She also enjoyed marching and performing in the Sun City Georgettes, tapdancing, clogging, and Performing Arts programs at Sun City, appearing in several performances including the "Sun City Follies". Julie led the singing at the Catholic masses held at Wellspring, where she played tambourine and led the singing there on Wednesday evening services. She was especially blessed to be a lector and festival volunteer at many churches; for 17 years before retirement, and 17 years since she retired.
She and Scott, Sr. enjoyed square dancing in the Sun City ballroom for many years and walking the wonderful, wooded trails in Sun City and at Lake Georgetown. They both participated in the running of the American Statesman Capitol 10K for 10 years, and their running and racing resulted in several medals and trophies.
Julie spent time visiting the sick and sharing Eucharist with them for many years; both in their homes and in the hospital. She worked as a volunteer at St. David's Hospital in
Georgetown, Texas, and Scott & White Hostipal in Round Rock. Julie served several years volunteering at the Caring Place as a cashier in the Boutique Shop on Saturday mornings. She also participated in religious education training for troubled youth in the Texas Juvenile Justice Department for several years. Julie and Scott, Sr. founded the "Life Chain" Georgetown group – an anti-abortion social movement where once a year, Life Chain groups all over the nation, peacefully and prayerfully stand as a public witness for the right to life for the unborn. Julie was an advocate for the Pro-life movement wherever she found it. Julie's favorite praise was "PRAISE THE LORD" and would love to know that many others continue the acclamation.
Julie lost her battle against Scleroderma (systemic sclerosis), a chronic auto-immune disease, on May 25, 2023. She is survived by her husband: Scott Tefft, Sr., daughter: Patricia Hernandez (Hector) of
Hutto, Texas, and son: Scott Tefft, Jr. of
Livonia, Michigan. Her son: Michael Tefft (Jenny) of
Texarkana, Arkansas, proceeded her in death due to a brain tumor, in 2007. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A rosary and visitation are scheduled for Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home, and the Funeral Mass will be at St. Helen Catholic Church in
Georgetown, Texas on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. Internment is at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery at 330 Berry Lane,
