On Friday, October 17, 2025, the one & only Julian Tamez Jr. peacefully left this world from his Corpus Christi, TX home and ventured into another dimension for his next great adventure.
Born in Corpus Christi on February 20, 1952, to Julian Tamez Sr. & Hortencia Donna Tamez, Julian Jr. lived a momentous and fruitful life filled with joy, happiness, and an unequivocal love for his family and friends.
Having grown up in Corpus Christi his entire life, Julian graduated from WB Ray High School in May 1970 after which he married Patricia Gonzales and had 2 children - Jason & Jeremy. He then served in the US Army at Fort Polk & Fort Sam Houston from 1972-1976 before receiving an honorable discharge and certification as a licensed vocational nurse.
In December 1978, Julian graduated from Corpus Christi State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreational Administration and Physical Education and, for the next several years, he explored multiple careers in sales, restaurant management, photography & video, and nursing before landing on what was to be his true calling.
For almost 3 decades, Julian was an acclaimed and successful high school soccer coach and teacher at Taft HS & Holmes HS in San Antonio; Carroll HS in Corpus Christi; Harlingen South HS, Harlingen HS, and La Joya HS in the Rio Grande Valley; and San Marcos HS. During much of that time, he also served as president of the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches and was soccer coach representative in the UIL Council. In retirement, he continued to work with CCISD and its athletic program in various supporting capacities up until the day he passed.
A loving son, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Julian is survived by his two sons, Jason and Jeremy; his grandchildren, Bastien & Isabella; brothers and sisters, Robert, Marylou, Sylvia, Nori, Sandra, Javier, and Jaime; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless others that consider him a father figure and call him “Dad.”
In his own words….
“As I prepare for the anchor leg of my life…the last lap…the final round…I am so privileged to have lived during these historic decades of mankind’s history. To have breathed the same air as some of my heroes - Muhammad Ali…Elvis Presley…The Beatles…countless others - it most certainly has been fun. I was blessed with a fantastic family, friends, lovers, children, and good health. Life is Good…even when the stars are not always aligned perfectly.”
Julian Tamez Jr…Optimist…Diehard Dallas Cowboys & San Antonio Spurs fan…Center of Attention…Life of the Party…The Salt Shaker…A mentor to many and a true inspiration to all of those who were in his orbit…he will be missed dearly.
In lieu of funeral service and mass, a Celebration of Life will be held in Corpus Christi at a date, time & location to be determined. Details to follow.
