Julianne Shaughnessy McCullough, 78, of Amesbury, MA passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025 in Boston, MA after living with Ovarian Cancer for five and a half years. Julie was born on July 29, 1946 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Mirah (Augustine) and Jack Shaughnessy. She graduated in 1968 from UMass Amherst and later earned a Masters Degree in Education from Salem State University. She was a teacher her whole career in many different roles, with her main focus on Early Childhood Education, ending with her retirement from Early Intervention. Julie was an incredible mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, wisdom and remarkable kindness left a lasting mark on everyone she encountered. She loved flowers, music, travel, singing, and spending time in her garden. She lived a compassionate life filled with humor, strength and resilience and had a competitive streak: you wouldn't ever catch her letting you win! Her presence was a gift to all who knew her. Julie had a remarkable way of making others feel seen, appreciated, and valued. Her legacy of love will live on in all the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her daughters Jennifer McLeod and her husband Scott of Amesbury, MA and Kathryn Gray and her husband David of South Hampton, NH, son Patrick McCullough of Amesbury, MA, grandchildren Christopher McLeod, Emily and James Gray, brothers John Shaughnessy of Lynn, MA and Michael Shaughnessy of Waldwick, NJ, sister Kathleen Lewis and brother-in-law Stephen Lewis of Durham, NH, Amy Weinberg of Merrimac, MA, the McCullough family, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and extended family. Julie is also survived by friends who were like family including her UMass clan, the WWW, former co-workers, Newburyport friends, the best neighbors, and so many "kids" who considered her a second mother over the years. Relatives & friends are invited to Calling Hours for Julie at F. S. Roberts & Son Funeral Home, Wednesday, May 21, 2025, 4:00 - 7:00PM. Memorial Services will be held at First Congregational Church of Rowley on Thursday, May 22, 2025, 12:30 PM.
