Spilsbury Mortuary - St. GeorgeHurricane, Utah - Julie Schwab Adkins-Smith, 82, passed away Monday, October 20, 2025. She was born October 23, 1942 in Nuremberg, Germany, to Carl and Milda (Albert) Schwab.
Julie grew up in post-WWII Germany and came to the United States at the age of 19. While living in Alabama Julie raised her two children and earned her Associates Degree of Arts. She then moved to El Paso, Texas, where she earned a Master's in Speech Language Pathology. She worked as a speech-language therapist in the public schools of New Mexico, Texas, and California. Julie retired from her chosen profession in 2004 when she and Charles moved to Victorville, California, to be closer to her daughter and twin grandchildren-her pride and joy. Julie and Charles moved to Hurricane in 2021, where they had their "forever home" built.
As a second career Julie became a crochet teacher for Michael's Arts and Crafts and gave lessons at home, and imparted her love of crocheting to many students. In addition to crochet, Julie enjoyed traveling (especially cruising), gardening (especially roses), and playing cards with friends. Julie's goal was always to touch as many lives as possible in a positive way and to live every day to the fullest.
Julie is survived by her husband of 38 years, Charles Smith; two children from her first marriage to the late Austin Adkins, Dolores "Dascha" Gorski of Colorado and Michael Lee Adkins of Ohio; and four grandchildren, John and Carl Gorski and Matthew and Mitchell Adkins.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 6, at American Legion Post 100 hall, 730 N 200 W, Hurricane, Utah. Friends may call 435-628-4272 for further information.
