Julio Delgado, 79, of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Julio was born on August 2, 1944, in Del Rio, Val Verde county, Texas, to the late Rodolfo and Celia (Nieto) Delgado.
Julio, at the age of 18, met the love of his life, Rita Coronado, and they were united in marriage on April 14, 1962, in Lubbock. Julio and Rita have spent the last 61 years together as a loving husband and wife.
He worked for Lakewood Pipe Company in Lubbock, before working in the Sanitation Department with the City of Lubbock. He was employed with the City of Lubbock for approximately 20 years, before retiring in 2009. Julio was an avid Dallas Cowboy’s fan, loved baseball, all kinds of sports and golf. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Those left to honor and cherish Julio’s memory include his wife, Rita; three sons: Jose Delgado and wife Lori of Woodrow, Juan Delgado and wife Naomi of Lubbock and Julio Delgado, Jr. and wife Kathy of Lubbock; three daughters: Yolanda Delgado of Lubbock, Jasmine Delgado of Lubbock and Esperanza Delgado of Lubbock; one brother, Rudy H. Delgado of Lubbock; three sisters: Feliciana Mendoza and husband Antonio, Sr. of Lubbock, Maria Marin of Lubbock and Linda Cisneros and husband Raul of Victoria, Texas; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Julio was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Norma Linda Delgado; a brother, Rudy N. Delgado, Jr.; a grandson, Noah Delgado.
A time of reflection and visitation for Julio will be from 5 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, December 28, 2023, in the Venue on Broadway of Combest Family Funeral Home at 2202 Broadway in Lubbock, with Recitation of the Rosary at 6 PM. Mass will be held at 10 AM on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1120 52nd Street in Lubbock, with Father Martin Pina as the Celebrant. Final rites and interment will follow in the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.
The pallbearers will be Julio Delgado, III, Ralph Arroyo, Patrick Ombogo, Jonathan Ybarra, Joe Michael Delgado and Rene Delgado.
