Julius Kaplan passed at home surrounded by his family. He arrived in the United States at 4 years old and grew up in Chicago. He attended Marquette University and returned to Czechoslovakia to earn his medical degree from Komensky University. He completed his internship at MacNeal Hospital and his residency at Resurrection Hospital in Chicago. He would go on to build a distinguished career in family medicine, and was awarded the Degree of Fellow from the American Academy of Family Practice.
For decades, Dr. Kaplan ran a family medicine practice in Chicago, caring for patients from all walks of life - serving new immigrant families, helping them navigate the healthcare system in their adopted home.
A devout Catholic, Dr. Kaplan's faith was central to his life and work. He lived his beliefs through his dedication to serving others and his commitment to ethical medical practice. His strong moral compass guided both his professional and personal life, inspiring those around him.
Beyond his private practice, Dr. Kaplan was committed to advancing healthcare in his community. He served in leadership positions at Rainbow Hospice, on the Ethics Board of Resurrection Hospital, and with the American Cancer Society.
Dr. Kaplan recently celebrated 55 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Rozalia. Their enduring love and partnership was an inspiration to all who knew them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Emilia Kaplan, and his brother, Michael. Dr. Kaplan is survived by his wife Rozalia; his son, John-Paul (Lauren); his daughter, Anne Marie Petros (James); and his cherished granddaughters, Ella Grace and Josie Rose; and his godson, Martin Bednar; brother in law Stan Pokojny (Krystyna). Sister in law Olga Kaplan, loving goddaughter Monica Smuda (Chris) and their sons CJ, Tyler, and Joey. Fond Uncle to many.
Dr. Kaplan will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his dedication to his patients, his love for his family, and his commitment to serving others. His legacy of compassion, healing, and spiritual devotion will continue to inspire all those whose lives he touched.
