Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home, Inc. on May 12, 2025.
Julius B. Twyne, Jr., 94, of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on May 2, 2025. He was born on December 29th, 1930, in Blackshear, Georgia, to Julius B. Twyne, Sr., and Luberta Edwards.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan, his children, Terence, Alice, Ellen, and Mark, a half-brother, Vernon Twyne, and other dear family.
Julius served his country in the U.S. Army as an anti-aircraft/artillery battery commander and was honorably discharged, having achieved the rank of captain. He earned a B.S. degree from Hampton Institute, where he joined Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University. He became a registered architect in New York in 1961.
He was a man of vision, discipline, and deep community commitment who enjoyed his relationships with his friends, colleagues and clients. Julius was the principal of JT2 Architects, a firm he owned and operated for over 30 years. His work-focused on commercial, community, and residential projects throughout Westchester County-contributed to the architectural character of the Rivertowns.
His professional experience included firms such as Davis Brody Associates, Charles Luckman Associates, the office of Philip Johnson and John Burgee and Facilities Development Corporation (FDC). He worked on notable projects, including the U.S. Pavilion at the 1964 World's Fair, the NYU Master Plan, Bobst Library, the Cornell University Master Plan, Bronx Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center, CBS Production Center, and the Roosevelt Island Master Plan. He also served as a lecturer at Columbia University's Evening School and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Architects' Technical Assistance Center (ATAC) in New York City. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Julius enjoyed photography, a wide range of music, from classical to soul, and time spent in nature. In Hastings-on-Hudson, he was a familiar and friendly face, often seen chatting with neighbors and reflecting on the many projects he completed in the village.
To his family, he will forever be the loving, supportive father who piled everyone into the car for family vacations or city excursions. His passing has left a void in our hearts. We will love him and miss him, always.
A private family ceremony with full military honors was held at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett funeral home in White Plains. He will be interred at Mount Hope cemetery.
