June Hymas Ames was born on October 11th, 1940, and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 24, 2023. She graduated from cosmetology school and owned a salon. There she met hundreds of people who became lifelong friends. She served on the Utah Hair Fashion Committee. She won first place at a styling contest at the Hotel Utah. She was also an amazing western artist. As an artist she won numerous blue ribbons at the Utah State Fair. She also won the "Best of Show" for the Zions Bank Staircase Galleries with her painting of Bryce Canyon. As a western artist she sold paintings all over the world. In the church, she held many offices, including Stake Young Women's President in Layton. She cared deeply for the young women she served.
She loved her family and being a mom, grandma, and great grandma. She never forgot anyone's birthday or anniversary, always sending out cards. She loved to support her grandchildren by attending their school events, sporting events and any other special occasions.
She loved traveling with her family, especially her husband Cliff. They would travel in their trailer, frequenting places like Yellowstone, Lava Hot Springs, Teton National Park and Jackson Hole. She loved camping with her family, especially in the mountains of Beaver surrounded by her grandkids. She loved to travel all over the world, going to Paris, Japan, South Korea, etc. Some of her favorite destinations were Acadia Park in Maine, art galleries in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Taos, New Mexico, Scottsdale, Arizona, California and Hawaii. She loved taking her family to Disneyland. She traveled to Japan with the Utah Business Women to attend a conference. She traveled the United States finding subjects to paint for the art she loved.
She grew up on a farm with her horse Prince. She loved drawing and painting beautiful pictures of horses. She also loved to go horseback riding with her kids. She met her husband at the Gold and Green Ball in Hunter, Utah, later telling her mother that she had met the man she would marry.
June was loved by many, to know her was to love her. She loved helping people in any way she could.
June is survived by her children, Glenn (Kaylene) Ames, Greg Ames, Michelle Taylor and Emily (Becky) Ames, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her daughter Leisa Jensen.
A viewing will be held for family and friends at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City on Thursday, September 28th from 6pm to 8pm. A viewing will also be held at the same location prior to the graveside service on Friday, September 29th from 10am to 11:30am. The graveside service will be Friday, September 29th at 12pm at Elysian Burial Gardens at 1075 East 4580 South, Millcreek. There will be a social gathering with food to celebrate and talk about her amazing life following the graveside service. In her honor, please feel free to wear her favorite color orange.
