June Burkert, 100, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Phoebe Berks in Wernersville. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul Burkert, who preceded her in death in 1988.
Born in Reading, June was the daughter of the late William and Lucy (Terrey) Burdan. A graduate of Reading High School, she dedicated her life to her family, embracing her role as a devoted wife and mother.
June recently celebrated her 100th birthday, a milestone she was proud to reach. She remained sharp and spirited, with an impressive memory-especially when it came to recalling family history. Known for her sense of humor, she was always ready with a new joke (and occasionally a familiar one). Family was at the heart of everything she did, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Susan, wife of Charlie Golden, of Indianapolis, IN, and Rod Burkert, husband of Amy (Becwar), of Bisbee, AZ. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Dr. Catherine Hilliker (Jeffery), Daniel Golden (Jennifer), Paul Burkert, and Kelly Nebroskie (Paul); and great-grandchildren: Charles and Henry Hilliker, Kylie Golden, Aubrey and Paul (Jr.) Nebroskie. She was predeceased by her husband Paul, and a daughter, Carol.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 11 at 11:00, in the Phoebe Berks Chapel, 1 Reading Drive, Wernersville, PA 19565. The family will receive friends and relatives at a reception immediately following the service. Burial will follow at Laureldale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) in honor of her daughter, Carol.
