James George Burkert, 67, went to be with the Lord on August 9, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. Born on February 22, 1958, at Butler Memorial Hospital, Butler, PA to William and Mary Jane Burkert.
He graduated from Seneca Valley High School, class of 1976. He attended Vale Technical Institute where he earned an associate's degree in the Automotive Technics and Management Program.
He owned Jim Burkert's Paint Shop in Harmony, PA, until accepting a position with Nationwide. In 1996, James began his career with Nationwide Insurance Company working his way up from Claims Associate to Technical Director of Claims over his twenty-six years with the company.
Jim, as he was affectionately called, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, humor, and an unwavering faith in God. Those who knew Jim, will remember him for his infectious smile and constant support. He left a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
Outside of his job, Jim found joy in music. He enjoyed long road trips and camping with his family. He could often be seen volunteering at Nationwide Children's Championship golf tournament and even playing a bit of golf himself. He enjoyed the adrenaline of drag racing and could be spotted at the raceway on the weekends or racing his model slot cars.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cassie Burkert, daughter Janice Mess (Kenton), brother John Burkert, sister Patricia Judd, sister Amy Davis (Burt), brother Terry Jo Burkert (Bambi), and sister Iva Ehrhart (Bill).
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Jane (Keefer) Burkert, brother Kenneth Burkert, and brother Christian Burkert.
Family and friends will be received at Pfeifer-Woodyard Funeral Home at 7915 E Main Street,
Reynoldsburg, OH, Saturday August 16, 2025. Visitation will be from 9am – 11am EST. The funeral service will start at 11am with Reverend Joseph Toomey and Pastor Brian Naess officiating. Jim will be laid to rest at Glen Rest Memorial Estate following the service.
