June Digna Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Molnar Funeral Home - Southgate Chapel on Mar. 30, 2026.
Obituary of June Digna

June Shirley Digna, of Lincoln Park, Michigan, peacefully returned to her Heavenly home on March 27th, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born into the transformative city of Detroit during the Great Depression, June was raised in a devoted Catholic Hungarian family. Her mother passed before June became an adult, and the foundational lessons that swiftly followed bolstered her for a lifetime of labor and compassion, especially as she took a leading charge to help raise her younger sister Marylee. After marrying her high school sweetheart, June undertook a healthy range of multifaceted roles as wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, volunteer, and reliable employee. Even while raising six children and committing to her church and social functions, she provided her employers with attentive excellence. She filled a variety of clerical positions across the decades, hiring first into Flat Rock High School, then taking a position at the Detroit News before ultimately retiring from the records department at Detroit Receiving Hospital. She likewise volunteered much of her time as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout troop leader. In addition to spending reflective time as an avid reader and seamstress, she enjoyed a host of activities with her family and friends, from playing cards and attending theater performances to camping in the forest and taking serene walks in parks with her beloved Shelties. As one, however, who found the sincerest joy in her faith, June most of all cherished her local chapel and invested herself wherever she attended. She taught Sunday School and preschool at St. Roch in Flat Rock for many years. She also frequently served as a volunteer for the Catholic Youth Organization. After moving, her later years entailed playing with the handbell chorus, raising funds, setting up bake sales, and participating in the Bible study and Heritage club at Christ the Good Shepherd in Lincoln Park. June held a vision where everyone she met would find comfort and meaning in the spiritual and the holy.

June was preceded in death by her sweetheart and husband of 33 years, William Digna Sr. of Flat Rock; by her parents, Nicholas and Mary Matty of Michigan; and by her sons, Jeffrey Digna of Trenton and Steven Digna of Lincoln Park, as well as by one great-great-grandchild. She is survived by her sister, Marylee Somers of Louisiana; by four children: Christine (Harold, deceased) Carter of North Carolina, William Digna Jr. of Michigan, Marcia (Guy) Younglove of Flat Rock, and Bruce (Alia) Digna of Canton; by her daughter-in-law, Verna Digna; and by 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A memorial gathering will be held at Molnar Funeral Home in Southgate, Michigan on Monday, April 6th, 2026 from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. The Catholic Mass will subsequently be held at Christ the Good Shepherd in Lincoln Park, Michigan, on Tuesday, April 7th, at 10:00 A.M. (Instate 9:30 A.M.)

In lieu of flowers, June's family will honor her wishes to request a donation, either to the Michigan Sheltie Rescue at 922 Oakhurst, Grand Rapids, MI, 49504, or in the form of a Mass card at one's local Catholic church or online.
