June Hein Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
On July 31, 2025 June Hein died peacefully of natural causes in Ames, Iowa at Northridge Village under the gentle care of their staff and Suncrest Hospice. Her daughter was by her side.
Born in Albany New York in 1930 to Arthur C. and Josephine J. Harrington, her family lived on a small farm in Voorheesville where they raised chickens, had a dairy cow (Brownie), and farmed with horses. After June's mom died, her dad sold the farm and opened a hardware store in town.
June graduated from Voorheesville High School in 1948 and New York State College in 1952 with a degree in English.
Through friends, she met and later married Theodore C. Hein. They dated while Ted was stationed at Ft. Belvoir during the Korean conflict and were married in 1954. Their son, David, was born in Alexandria, VA in 1956. The family later moved to Point Richmond, California where June was an elementary school teacher, and Ted was initially employed with Standard Oil Company and later the US Department of the Air Force as a Civil Engineer. Their daughter, Lisa, was born in 1961. In California, June established deep friendships, developed her skills as a watercolor artist, and raised two children as an awesome, playful mother.
In 1969, the family moved to Lake Secor, NY for a year and then to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1970 where June furthered her watercolor painting career and became a lab technician for an orthodontist. Her husband, Ted, died in 1980.
In 1995 June retired and moved to Dunedin, Florida to be near the beach, warm weather and her cousins' family (Len, Gordy, Josie, Michelle and Vanessa). While in Florida, she took up ballroom dancing, and enjoyed many years being active and traveling with friends and family.
In 2016 her family brought her to Iowa to keep her close while she aged with dementia. Wherever she lived, June made friends. She loved music, dancing, and painting. She was always finding creative outlets as a watercolor artist or to simply make unique crafts out of found items.
She had a dry sense of humor, was always fun loving and very easy going. Her friends and family describe her as sweet, kind, humble, positive and very witty.
During her final months she lost most of her memories but always expressed love to those around her. Her family is grateful to all that loved her back. She was a shining star.
June is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her children, David (Jeanne) and Lisa (Phil), her grandsons Bob (Nikki) and Tavis (Brenda), great grandchildren Adelynn, Lydia and Tavis (T).
Bonus family members include Erica and Cody, Sean and Nicole, Aaron and Claire along with their kids Ruby, Violet, Dugan, Oliver, Coen and Reid. Bonus great-grandchildren also include Connor and Aiden.
The family wishes to thank Northridge Village and Suncrest Hospice for their loving care during her time in Iowa, especially the last six months as her dementia progressed until all that remained was pure love.
Goodbye June-bug. We love you dearly.
Donations in June's memory can be made to Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.
No funeral services are planned. June will be interred at Fort Logan Cemetery in Denver alongside Ted.
