Roger Allen Kempe was born on September 29, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa, to parents, Edward Henry Kempe and Jeanette Ann Padley Kempe. Roger graduated from Faulkton High School in Faulkton, South Dakota, in 1965.
Roger married Rose Mary Keller on March 19, 1971. From this marriage, two children were born: John Charles (Anna) Kempe and Nicolle Lynne (Jerome) Kempe. Roger gained three bonus children: Thomas Richard Mather, Edward James Mather, and Arla Ellen (Mather) Brzezinski.
Roger married Cecilia Louise Hadaway on October 14, 1995, and of this marriage gained two additional bonus children: Becky Marie (Perkovich) Parmelee and Stacy Renee (Perkovich) Miller.
Roger was a welder at Keifer Industrial, drove over-the-road semi for Wenger Truckline, Richard Campbell, Contract Transport and Crouse Cartage Company and drove dump truck for Construct and Conley's until retiring in 2019. Roger enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching westerns, and spending time with his family.
Roger has 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Jeanette (Nate) McSparin; Michelle (Geoff) Mosby and daughters Chloe and Charlotte; Michael Mather; Jackie (Nolan) Griffin and children Lenny and Poppy; Joanna Mather; Jonathan Brzezinski; Josh Brzezinski; Madeline (Kieran) Hartley; Rylin Pritchett; William Miller; Dominic Miller; and James Parmelee.
Roger is preceded in death by his father, Edward; mother, Jeanette; brothers, John Charles, Robert, and Carl; sister, Joanie; and grandson, Nicholas.
Roger passed away at Accura Healthcare in Ames, Iowa on Monday, October 6, 2025. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 10, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. at the Napier Community Church in Napier, Iowa (1595 Xenia Dr, Ames, IA 50014). A private burial service will be held at a later date at Olive Branch Cemetery in rural Colfax township in Boone County, Iowa.
