Of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Rankin, June passed away peacefully on January 31, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Rankin, PA, she was preceded in death by her parents Josephine A. (Martincic) and Michael P. Marecic, her beloved husband of 64 years Walter Lekovitch, and her brother Bernard W. "Beets" (wife, Barbara Trent) Marecic.
She is survived by her children Michael, Walter (Audrey) Lekovitch, William (Patty) Lekovitch, John (Karen) Lekovitch, George (Lisa) Lekovitch, Mary Jo (the late Martin) Cosgrove, Edward (Renean) Lekovitch, Janet (Mark) Omelian and June Lekovitch. June is also survived by her sister, Donna (Phil) Shusteric, 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Rankin High school, June was tested for her typing and office skills and landed a job at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. She worked as a secretary to an Army Colonel for 2 years before returning home to Rankin and working at a firm in Downtown Pittsburgh. She became a fulltime Mom but eventually returned to the workforce as a school secretary at St. Brendan and St. Michael Schools in Braddock. Later, she was elected as Tax Collector in Rankin, a position she held for 20 years. June had been a member of the Croatian Home in Rankin and the Christian Mothers.
Friends are welcome on Friday from 2-8pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home Turtle Creek/Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek (412-823-9350) where a Blessing Service will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
June will be laid to rest in Braddock Catholic Cemetery.
