Leo Clougherty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home - Turtle Creek on Oct. 22, 2025.
Obituary of Leo A. Clougherty
Of Forest Hills, age 98 (99 on Nov. 7), died peacefully at his home with his family present on Monday, October 20, 2025.
Leo was the beloved husband of Patricia (Bennett) Clougherty, a few weeks shy of 70 loving years of marriage.
He was the treasured father of Patrick (Anne) Clougherty of VA, William (Barbara) Clougherty of VA, Leann (David) Wildenheim of Ohio, Mary (Harry) Bechman of Murrysville, Joseph (Shannon) Clougherty of Mt. Lebanon, and the late Justine Clougherty.
Leo is also survived by 16 cherished grandchildren and one beautiful great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Raymond (late Margie) Clougherty, Patricia (late Frank) Carpenter, Richard (late Florence) Clougherty and Robert (late Winnie) Clougherty.
Leo was a 1944 graduate of East Pittsburgh High School where he earned a basketball scholarship to Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon). After his first semester at Carnegie Tech, he was drafted into the Army during WWII and upon his return from WWII he enrolled at Duquesne University and graduated in 1951.
Upon graduation, Leo was hired as a sales representative by Worthington Pumps, Inc., a New Jersey firm, with whom Leo was employed for his entire career. He retired from Worthington at the age of 70.
He and Pat settled in Forest Hills and Leo became a steadfast volunteer in the community.
When Forest Hills was strongly considering building an ice-skating rink for residents, Leo was a founding member of the group that convinced Forest Hills officials that a swimming pool would be more beneficial to residents than an ice-skating rink. He also was a member of the committee to build a snack bar at the site of the pool.
Leo coached Little League Baseball in the Edgewood Acres neighborhood of Forest Hills where he was also a volunteer with the Churchill Area High School Band Boosters, as well as a chaperone at the proms that his children attended.
Leo was an ardent fan of all the Pittsburgh sports teams and he was extremely proud of his Irish roots and celebrated them with delight. More than anything, Leo relished each moment shared with his family and friends.
As we bid farewell to Leo Clougherty, we acknowledge a life well-lived, a heritage honored, and a family cherished.
All are welcome on Sunday from 1-4pm and Monday from 3-7pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Turtle Creek/Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, PA 15145, (412) 823-9350.
Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Maurice Church in Forest Hills (St. Joseph the Worker Parish) on Tuesday at 10 a.m., followed by a Presentation of Military Honors.
Leo will be laid to rest privately in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on
