June Theresa Ruszkowski, age 69, of New Lenox, IL (formerly the River North neighborhood of Chicago, IL where she lived for close to 30 years ) passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, due to complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born on March 13, 1956, in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Astoria Queens, New York, June was a beloved daughter, wife, sister, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin-in-law, and friend. She touched the lives of many with her profound warmth, grace, generosity, kindness, and spirit. June possessed a brilliant mind, great wit, and a loving heart.

June graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry from CUNY Queens College in Flushing, NY and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.

June went on to pursue a career in science, working on the development of the MRI. June later went into sales, selling MRIs and other diagnostic imaging equipment for top companies, including GE and Philips Healthcare.

June loved travel; Broadway; music (she was Cher’s number one fan); long walks; water sports, especially snorkeling; great restaurants; fixing things (she was quite the handywoman who always had to have some kind of project in the works); and the Chicago Cubs, whom she realized she’d better learn to love if she was going to fit in with the family! She came to enjoy a beautiful day at Wrigley Field.

June is survived by her loving family, including her wife, Patricia McDermott; brother, Stanley (Mary) Ruszkowski; mother-in-law, Kathleen McDermott; father-in-law, James McDermott; sister-in-law, Kelly (Jeff Jones) McDermott; brother-in-law, Mark Meeks; nephews, Stephen Ruszkowski, Nicholas (Cecelia Iniguez) Meeks; Alexander (Elizabeth) Jones; nieces, Caitlin Meeks, Mackenzie Meeks, Sophia Jones, Harper Jones, and Emerson Jones; many cousins-in-law and their children whom June considered her nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Chester “Skip” Ruszkowski and Mary Browning Ruszkowski and her sister-in-law, Kimberly Meeks.
