June, along with her two sisters, attended Brookdale Covenant Church in Brooklyn Center, MN, participating in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Confirmation, and Bible Camp. A favorite childhood pastime for June was reading books and writing summer plays for the neighborhood children to participate in and present. June and her sister, Barbara, never received an allowance, but babysat and worked high school summers in the mail room at the Billy Graham Association and the Burma Shave factory, both in Minneapolis, MN.
22-year-old June loved to travel. One such adventure was hitching a ride in the backseat of an unheated car with her sister Barbara to New York City over the long 1967 Thanksgiving weekend to see the "big city lights". They saw a play in Greenwich Village, lunched at an automat, took subways and the elevated train to Coney Island Amusement Park, and stayed at the historic Roosevelt Hotel. June and Barbara became world travelers in 1968 after taking a retired World War II ship to cross the Atlantic Ocean. Both were seasick for eight days with a crew that only spoke Italian.
They rented a car in Paris and learned to drive a stick shift car, staying overnight at hostels, picking grapes for 6 days while staying with a family in their home who owned the vineyard near Dijon, France, and even crossed over to occupied East Berlin on foot at the guarded Berlin Wall. June also traveled to Nova Scotia and throughout the United States. During her marriage to Bob, they traveled down the Mississippi River in their boat to Mobile, AL to take classes for June to become a licensed First Mate, and Bob became a licensed Boat Captain to carry passengers.
June's employment history included being a United States Postal Service employee in Minneapolis and Red Wing until retirement at age 70. June was a beloved aunt. She introduced her nieces and nephews to downtown Minneapolis, MN living, metro buses, and the Dayton eighth-floor Christmas displays. She was a caring and generous person, often putting others before herself.
